When the perceived temperatures drop at the weekend in the GC Pokerroom, everyone knows that the Friday Freezeout is on the tournament schedule. Without a safety net, 69 entries gathered at the Grand Casino Liechtenstein (GCLI) and cracked the 7k guarantee after 2 slow days.
120 CHF Friday Freezeout
Poker like in the good old days without re-entry, rebuy, double-chance, or similar options only happens occasionally in the now rare freezeout tournaments. From 5 p.m., however, there was exactly that opportunity in Gamprin-Bendern, and 69 players did not miss out for a 105+15 CHF buy-in. Thus, 7,245 Swiss Francs ended up in the prize pool, from which the top eight were to receive prize money between 290 CHF and 2,090 CHF – at least that was the plan.
As is often the case, however, things turned out differently. First, the nine remaining players agreed on a bubble deal, for which they took 160 Swiss Francs from the prize pool. Once again represented at the final table was arguably the most successful player in the history of the GCLI, Kathrin Wolfinger (LIE), who was eliminated in 8th place (290 CHF). She was followed to the rails by Herbert Maurer (AUT) in 7th place (370 CHF), before the nickname faction including “HerzAss” (AUT, 465 CHF), “MAC” (SUI, 595 CHF), “Bölcs27” (SUI, 770 CHF), and “Phil K.” (AUT, 985 CHF) were eliminated in that order. Reaching heads-up, the Austrian-Swiss pairing agreed on a split, a brotherly even deal. This gave both the runner-up Radim Divis (SUI) and the official Friday Freezeout winner Joel Rynda (AUT) 1,805 Swiss Francs.

Today at GCLI
Starting at 3:00 p.m. today, the Saturday Freezeout takes place in the GC Pokerroom. For a 130+20 CHF buy-in, at least 10,000 Swiss Francs are guaranteed in the prize pool. It starts with 40,000 chips, and the blinds increase every 30 minutes. Late registration is open for 9 levels in this freezeout for late starters.
