The top 8 returned to the live-streamed final table after a hard-fought Day 2 with a guaranteed $175,000. Among them were the ultra-short-stacked Thomas Mühlöcker and Matthias Eibinger from Austria, who were aiming for the $1,250,000 first-place prize.

Event #3: $50,500 NLH Grand Slam – Final

Instead of the planned 7 finalists, 8 of the original 95 entries took their seats at the TV table on Wednesday. Tom Vogelsang (NED) started as chip leader with 48 BBs, followed by the popular high stakes streamer Johan “YoH ViraL” Guilbert (FRA) with 42 BBs. Matthias Eibinger was in the middle of the pack with 30 BBs, while Thomas Mühlöcker, with only 1 Big Blind, had to hope for a favorable situation.

Thomas Mühlöcker’s final day began with a double-up, which of course didn’t get him out of the red zone. Unfortunately, his next all-in was not as successful, as he pushed with A7 into AT. The Austrian finished eighth, for which he received a $175,000 payout.

A more bitter exit came for the Chinese player Quan Zhou, who had taken the chip lead with a rivered straight against Tom Vogelsang’s two pair and possessed a healthy stack in the battle for the $1.25M. However, shortly thereafter, he was all-in with top pair plus a straight draw against “YoH ViraL,” who sent Zhou to the rail in 7th place with “only” $210,000 in payout with his overpair of pocket Kings.

At 7-handed, Matthias Eibinger had to make a real hero call on the river in a blinds-vs-blind battle against Oren with a pair of 8s. He was correct against the US-American’s Q-high bluff and thus gained momentum at the final table.

The time came to an end for Igor Yaroshevskyy when he ran into Oren’s pocket Jacks. The Ukrainian cashed for $265,000 as sixth. Afterwards, in the battle of the short stacks, Matthias Eibinger went all-in against Sergio Fernandez with AQ and was initially pleased with the Spaniard’s call with AJ. However, the Jack on the flop significantly changed the mood, before a Queen appeared on the river for the Austrian, sending Fernandez to the rail in 5th place with $340,000.

The decisive turn for Eibinger, who had folded 60(!) hands in a row the previous day, came when Johan Guilbert played a 4-bet shove with pocket Jacks in front of him, which the Pokercode head instantly called with pocket Kings. The dominant hand held up and made the Austrian the chip leader.

After sitting out card dead and under ICM pressure at the end of Day 2 and the beginning of Day 3, he participated in almost every hand as the big stack. This included defending his big blind against Day 2 chip leader Tom Vogelsang. Vogelsang hit top pair on the flop and was check-raised by Eibinger on his continuation bet. When a second 4 appeared on the board on the turn, Eibinger bet and was called by the Dutchman, just as he was on the river for the all-in shove. While Vogelsang turned over two pair, Eibinger had turned trips. Thus, the tournament ended for the newly crowned WSOPP bracelet winner in 4th place with a $430,000 payout.

At 3-handed, Eibinger initially held 80% of all chips in play before Guilbert managed to double up against him. Oren also tried, but lost the flip with AT against Eibinger’s pocket 3s. This meant 3rd place and $575,000 for Joseph “Handz” Oren from the United States.

The heads-up began with a 38.5M:9M chip lead. After Guilbert won a few small pots, it was Eibinger who further decimated the Frenchman’s stack with a higher straight. A few hands later, with only $4.2 million chips left, “YoH ViraL” called Matthias Eibinger’s all-in with pocket 7s, who was dominated with 87. However, two 8s on the board gave him not only trips but also the tournament victory in this Onyx High Roller Series event. Poker influencer and newest member of the CoinPoker family, Johan Guilbert, collected $870,000 as runner-up in the NLH Grand Slam.

The victory not only put the 4-time Triton champion Eibinger further ahead in the Austrian All-Time Money List but, above all, brought him back into the black in the current Onyx High Roller Series in Cyprus. In the $100k High Roller event, he had fired 4 bullets without a countable result; in the $50k NLH Grand Slam, there were another 3. Thus, the Austrian would have had to finish in 3rd place or better anyway to get out of the $550,000 deficit. He achieved this more than impressively, and with the $1,250,000 first-place prize, the bullets in the remaining events at the Onyx Club should be more than sufficiently financed.
