How “Das Duell um die Geld” works
Already in 2016 and 2017, 2 seasons of “Das Duell um die Geld” ran on TV, followed by the 3rd in 2024! The name is, of course, based on their successful show “Duell um die Welt”. The “Duell um die Geld” format is a mix of a quiz show and a poker tournament. In 3 betting rounds, participants can bet on their knowledge or their poker strategy.
The answer to a posed question represents the strength of their hand. Depending on how good the answer they secretly wrote on a piece of paper before the “hand” and placed in front of them as a “hole card” is, they are, of course, very strong or weak. Between the betting rounds, information is repeatedly presented that either reinforces the players’ unchangeable answer or makes them doubt it.
Thus, one can win pots with very good answers, or by forcing better answers out of the game with one’s own betting behavior. Everyone starts with €1,000, which corresponds to 20 Big Blinds in the first round. Betting can be done without limit. The game is played until one player has accumulated the full €5,000.
Oliver Kalkofe, Jan Heitmann, and Bruno as Masters of Ceremony
Since the game has an entertainment, a poker strategy, and a table game component, the three Masters of Ceremony also come from different fields. The quiz questions, tips, and solutions come from Oliver Kalkofe, who guides the show from his seat at the table.
Pokeramigo Jan Heitmann acts as the expert from off-screen. The successful poker player and coach analyzes the celebrities’ betting behavior. He also gives praise, although criticism tends to outweigh it for the rather inexperienced hobby poker players.
